Google Plans to Build Largest Corporate Solar Campus

EI Solutions is a California-based large-scale solar power system provider. They design custom systems for large corporations and other organizations.  They’ve teamed up with Google to design and plan construction of the largest corporate solar campus to date, a massive 1.6 MW system.

At Google’s Mountain View, CA location, panels will be installed on rooftops and above specialized vehicle shade structures, covering more than 197,000 square feet of the “Googleplex” campus.  To minimize maintenance costs, all arrays use the same type of photovoltaic cells.

Google uses a ton of electric power, and like many companies, Google is learning that when you save money on energy loss as well as energy supply, you in essence create income that you can allocate elsewhere.  The Google solar system will output 2,611,719 kWh per year, saving Google over $393,000 over the 30-year life span of the system.

On the macro scale, Google will be pulling 3.6 million pounds of C02 emissions from the atmosphere each year, or the equivalent of 4.28 million car miles a year.

Makes me want to work at Google or EI. These folks are putting their money where their mouth is, and more importantly, they are becoming more competitive because of it.
