Embarrassed! Absolutely embarrassed! That is how I felt after hearing about the jetBlue’s Fiasco last week at JFK airport where passengers were stuck on a plan sitting on the runway for over 10 hours. Especially since only a few days before hand in my prodcast interview with Lance Secretan, jetBlue was held up as a stellar role model of a company striving to do well by doing good. Lance himself said:
“ ...nobody in 35 years, nobody has copied Southwest Airlines. The only people to do it were JetBlue, which was a start up. No existing airline has ever copied them.”
Thank God that David Neeleman, CEO of jetBlue demonstrated true leadership today by:
1) Stepping up to the plate and claiming responsibility
2) Asking for those wronged for forgiveness
3) Making things right with those wronged
4) Asking for your continued business
5) Adopting the Passenger Bill of Rights that exceed any federally mandated regulations
So dear “leaders” in the making... take a lesson from the teacher (David) on what true leadership is about.
Hmmmm I think I will head to Las Vegas on my next trip. Guess who will be flying me.
