Biofuel: Earthrace Nears Completion in San Diego, CA

Earthrace is a 78-foot boat that that is currently racing to be the fastest boat to circumnavigate the globe—and to do it on 100% biodiesel. The craft itself is designed to be an exciting example of low-emission powerboat engines coupled with non-toxic, efficient hull design. Earthrace cuts through waves instead of riding on top of them, which provides a smooth ride even in rough seas.

The craft has a 23-foot beam and a four-foot draught. It’s driven by two 2 x 350 kW, 540 hp Cummins Mercruisers that run on B100. It will travel 3,000 nautical miles (6,000 km) on 2,500 gallons (10,000 liters) of fuel.

After some setbacks they are back on track to break the world record. Check out the latest news, buy some gear, or make a donation to the mission at their website (http://www.earthrace.net/index.php?section=1)
