More U.S. consumers are using solar power every year. To assist this growing demand, US Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Reps. Dennis Cardoza (D-CA) and Michael Ferguson (R-NJ) have recently introduced legislation that would allow consumers to not only install solar systems on their roofs, but also be treated fairly—as energy producers.
In the World of Endless Government Acronyms (WEGA), the Act is cleverly named SOLAR, or the Solar Opportunity and Local Access Rights act. The act helps protect buyers from ridiculously high licensing and permit fees associated with solar installations. The act would also protect buyers from siting solar systems on a roof the same way that satellite dishes are today in some areas.
