Biofuel: SAAB Gets It

One thing I’ve found myself wondering is that if biofuel is better than gasoline, but still has some pollution problems, why not combine biofuel with hybrid technologies and minimize biofuel use as well? Well, Saab is working this angle and has stated that it will release something like the above concept car in the next couple of years.

The battery is located in the back and takes the place of a spare tire, but the need for a spare has been designed out by implementing run-flat tires. The car is just as roomy and slick as the conventional model—another design success for Saab. The concept is a big hit in Sweden from which Saab hails, which is not a surprise since Sweden is the European leader in the adoptions of biofuel via significant state support of the fuel, such as tax breaks and toll exemptions.

Saab will add this vehicle to their other biofuel vehicles, which run on gasoline mixtures from regular gas to E85, which contains 85% bioethanol. Check out Saab’s site on the car here www.saab.com/main/GLOBAL/en/hybrid_intro.shtml .
